Liftlock Riverboat Luncheon Cruise & The Canadian Canoe Museum

Monday, July 5, 2010 Today a leisurely drive takes us to the community of Peterborough where we embark on an interesting and informative cruise along a portion of the Trent Severn Waterway.
Passenger boats have been touring on the waterway since the early 1900's, with the completion of the historic liftlock system. It is known to many as a recreation paradise, yet this waterway has played a significant role in history during the period of Native occupation and throughout the development of Ontario's lumber, agriculture and recreational industries. Enjoy a delicious lunch as the captain offers an informative narration about the waters we are cruising.
After our cruise we enjoy a guided tour of the Canadian Canoe Museum. This unique national heritage centre explores the canoe’s enduring significance to the peoples of Canada. With more that 600 canoes and kayaks and 1,000 related artifacts, it makes the museum collection the largest of its kind.
