Muskoka Lakes and the Bala Cranberry Festival The crimson harvest of cranberries is a one-of-a-kind experience!
2 Days October 15 - 16, 2010
Day 1 Bracebridge, ON
Today our journey takes us into the heart of the beautiful Muskoka Lakes Region.
We board the Wenonah II for a relaxing lunch cruise. Built in 2002 with all the style and grace of a 1907 Muskoka vessel, Wenonah II combines turn-of-the-century charm with modern conveniences including air-conditioning and an on-board elevator. Enjoy the spectacular fall colours from three different decks, each offering the ultimate lakeview experience. After the cruise we visit the Muskoka Boat & Heritage Centre, a brand new interactive museum that celebrates Gravenhurst's rich history in steam and boat building. See the beauty of classic wooden launches, restored and resting in slips at the museum docks.
We continue our journey through the beautiful Muskoka Region to the community of Bracebridge, the Hub of the Muskokas. We overnight at the Muskoka River Inn. Relax this evening in their pool and fitness centre, sports lounge, or bowling alley.
Day 2 Home
After a delicious breakfast we travel along Lake Muskoka through Milford Bay and Port Carling, on our way to the town of Bala. Fall brings the harvesting of Cranberries and with it, the Bala Cranberry Festival. The crimson harvest of cranberries is a one-of-a-kind experience, as you will see on our visit to Johnston’s Cranberry Marsh. Learn how the berries are grown and harvested on a guided tour of the marsh in a tractor-pulled wagon. Take a walk along side a cranberry bog for a close up view and take time to browse though the large selection of cranberry products available for sale. The balance of our day will be spent at the Bala Festival. Enjoy strolling among the verdor booths at the Market Place, check out the Juried Craft Show and shop along the main street. Later, we board our motor coach for our return home. A dinner stop will be made along the way.
