Exploring Ottawa & the Gatineaus Including Wakefield Steam Train & Algonquin Park
4 Days September 25 - 28, 2010
Day 1 - Ottawa, ON
Today we arrive in our Nation’s Capital, especially stunning when the surrounding Gatineau Hills are ablaze with colour. This afternoon enjoy a cruise on the historic Rideau Canal. We check into the stately Lord Elgin Hotel for a two-night stay.
Day 2 - Ottawa, ON
We begin our day with an unforgettable journey into the past aboard one of Canada's last remaining authentic steam-powered trains. Relax in comfort in climate controlled cars as you are carried back to a by-gone era. The Hull-Chelsea-Wakefield Steam Train travels from the city of Gatineau 64 kms to the picturesque village of Wakefield Québec. A two-hour stop allows for plenty of time to explore this historic village. A box lunch will be served on board. On our return trip discover the Outaouais region’s folklore in the music of the train’s own strolling minstrels.
Later, a scenic drive takes us through the heart of Gatineau Park for a visit to the MacKenzie King Estate.
Day 3 - Huntsville, ON
We bid farewell to Ottawa and continue our travels into the pristine wilderness of Algonquin Park. Covering 3000 sq. miles it is the oldest and most famous park in Ontario. A stop at the Logging Museum will bring the story of logging to life and you will be introduced to the human and natural history of the Park through exhibits, and interactive displays at the Visitor’s Center. We continue west through the park to Huntsville and the Best Western Muskoka Inn for the night.
Day 4 - Home
Our journey continues through the scenic Muskoka and Haliburton Regions. In Huntsville you will see the Outdoor Gallery, a series murals replicating the works of Tom Thomson and the original members of the Group of Seven. In Gravenhurst we visit the Muskoka Boat and Heritage Museum for a glimpse into the rich history that helped define Muskoka. We depart for home, arriving early evening.Tour Cost Per Person Cdn.
