Day 1 – Berkeley Springs, W.V.
Our adventure begins as we travel south to the historic community of, Berkeley Springs, a fountainhead of natural warm mineral waters that have drawn visitors for centuries seeking health and relief from the stress of everyday life. The waters flow from the springs at a constant temperature of 74.3 degrees Fahrenheit. Next to our hotel, you will see the historic bathhouses and an outdoor bath similar to the one used in 1784 by George Washington. We overnight at the charming Country Inn & Spa. Day 2 – Shenandoah National Park, VA
This morning we make our way to the spectacular Luray Caverns, 4,000,000 centuries in the making beneath Virginia’s storied Shenandoah Valley. For more than 125 years Luray Caverns, has been renowned as one of the world’s most spectacular natural wonders. Comfortable well-lighted, paved walkways lead us through inspiring chambers magnificently sculpted with countless stalactites and stalagmites. “Hear Rocks Sing” as you experience the haunting sounds of the world’s largest musical instrument, The Great Stalacpipe Organ. Enjoy the beautiful tones created by this one-of-a-kind instrument, which makes music of concert quality from the surrounding stalactite formations. We also see The Car and Carriage Caravan Museum exhibit, a tour through milestones in transportation and The Luray Valley Museum and Gardens, a museum displaying several historical artifacts celebrating the Shenandoah Valley culture.
This afternoon we enjoy some of the nation’s most spectacular scenery along the famous Skyline Drive. Several picture stops will be made before we arrive at the Skyland Resort for the night. Situated near the highest point on the Skyline Drive, it offers a breathtaking view of the Shenandoah Valley.
Day 3 – Staunton, VA
Our day begins with a full breakfast before continuing our journey along the Skyline Drive. Several stops will be made for photo opportunities of the amazing fall colours of Shenandoah National Park. We continue to Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson, the third president of the United States and author of the “Declaration of Independence”. Here we tour the original, authentically furnished house, which has been restored to its appearance circa 1809, when Jefferson retired to Monticello after his second term as president. Stroll the cultivated landscape of beautifully restored gardens; explore Mulberry Row, where Monticello’s slaves lived and labored; and enjoy scenic views of the countryside. We spend the night in Staunton. Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant.
Day 4 – Beckley, WV
This morning we visit The Frontier Culture Museum, a “living museum” that provides a view into the lives of the areas ancestors. It features several permanent, outdoor exhibits comprised of original farm buildings that have been carefully documented, dismantled, transported to Virginia, and restored in an effort to increase public knowledge of the diverse Old World origins of early immigrants.
We continue to another of Virginias natural wonders; The immensity is startling…the majesty is striking, twenty stories of solid rock, carved by the fingers of nature---Virginia’s Natural Bridge. Deemed the “Bridge of God” by Monacan Indians, the Bridge has a rich spiritual history for Native Americans dating back 300 years. Walk the path for a close up view of this magnificent natural rock bridge. Lunch will be on site before we continue to Beckley, West Virginia for the night.
