Saguenay & Lac-Saint Jean Experience the Charm of Saguenay
6 Days July 13 - 18, 2010
Day 1 Trois Rivière, QC
This morning our journey begins as we follow the course of the St. Lawrence Seaway into the Province of Quebec. We travel through the cosmopolitan city of Montreal and on to our overnight accommodation in Trois Rivière.
Day 2 Alma, QC
After breakfast we board the coach and travel north through the very heart of Quebec. Discover an area shaped by water and mountains as mile after mile of spectacular scenery unfolds before you. We skirt the boundaries of the Laurentides Provincial Wildlife Reserve on our way to Val Jalbert in the heart of the Saguenay/Lac Saint-Jean region. Here we will be swept into heart of the 1920s on a visit to this reconstructed community. Costumed guides bring the past to life during a tour of the main buildings of the village: the mill, the general store and the abandoned houses. You will also see the 236 ft Ouiatchouan waterfall. We continue along the shores of Lac Saint-Jean to the community of Alma for our overnight stay.
Day 3 Tadoussac, QC
The name of the Chicoutimi district comes from the Montagnais “Shkoutimeou”, which means “the end of the deep waters”. Incorporated as the new City of Saguenay, it is the most populated district and the administrative center of the region. We spend the morning visiting some of the local attractions. At the Mussee du Fjord you will see exhibits highlighting the dynamic environment where the secrets of the Saguenay Fjord and its inhabitants are unveiled. At the Olivier Soapery you will be introduced to the secrets of soap making. What is the origin of soap? Who discovered it? What makes it so hard and durable? It will be an unforgettable experience! Opened in 2002, La Pulperie de Chicoutimi highlights the significant part this company played in the development of the city and the region at the beginning of the last century. After lunch, we continue our travel along the north shore of the Saguenay River enroute to Tadoussac, situated at the mouth of the St. Lawrence River. A delicious diner is included this evening.
Day 4 Malbaie, QC
After a full breakfast, adventure awaits as we board our cruise boat and sail into the River and Fjord. Naturalist guides will tell you all about the Whales and Belugas living close to the Saguenay estuary. A light lunch will be served on board. After the cruise we board our coach and continue on a scenic drive along the Saint Lawrence River to the community of La Malbaie for the night.
Day 5 Montreal, QC
This morning we spend a relaxing day as we follow the River Road, visiting several exciting places in the quaint villages enroute to Montreal – The historic forge in Les Eboulements was built in 1891 and is still equipped with its original tools (1875-1925). Explore the blacksmith's shop and home. On the same site are a pottery boutique and a chocolate shop that includes one-of-a-kind creations and 60 varieties of chocolate confection! A short drive takes us to Saint-Joseph de la Rive for a visit to The Paper Economuseum and the Maritime Museum, both offering a wonderful insight into the history and people of the region. We continue to the city of Montreal where we spend our last night away from home.
Day 6 Home
We begin our day with a guided tour of Montreal. See the historic buildings of Old Montreal and visit Notre Dame Basilica. From the midst of the city rises the 764 foot Mont Royal. From here you will get a wonderful panoramic view of the sprawling city below. We depart for home, making appropriate stops along the way.Tour Cost Per Person Cdn. Currency
