Circle Georgian Bay and Manitoulin Island Featuring cruise aboard the MS Chi Cheemaun
4 Days June 22 - 25, 2010
Day 1 Tobermory, ON
We begin our circle of Georgian Bay by travelling up the Bruce Peninsula to Tobermory. The Bruce is a key area for both plant and animal wildlife and is part of the Niagara Escarpment World Biosphere Reserve. On arrival, we visit the new Bruce Peninsula National Park Visitor Center featuring a high-definition theatre, exhibit gallery, a full-size lighthouse and shipwreck exhibits. We overnight at the Bruce Anchor Inn.
Day 2 Manitoulin Island, ON
Enjoy breakfast aboard the MS Chi Cheemaun as we set sail for Manitoulin Island, the largest island in a freshwater lake in the world! On arrival we will be joined by a local guide and travel to the Ojibwe Cultural Foundation in M’Chigeeng for an official welcome ceremony in the sharing lodge. Enjoy a presentation of the local culture and traditions of the people of the region including a Hand Drum and Singing Presentation. Lunch is included at a local restaurant. We overnight on Manitoulin. Dinner is included this evening.
Day 3 Sudbury, ON
This morning we stop at Bridal Veil Falls in the town of Kagawong before making our way to Mindemoya and the Pioneer Heritage Museum. Discover a wide variety of artifacts and buildings relative to farming, fishing and lumbering in the area. We leave the Island at Little Current via the historic swing bridge, and travel through the rugged northern scenery enroute to Sudbury.
Day 4 Home
This morning we visit Science North. Walk through a tunnel blasted from 2.3 billion-year-old bedrock that leads into the centre. Explore displays featuring the geology of the region including precious stones. The Center offers a fascinating look into the world we live in! We return home by early evening.
