Multi-Day Vacations

Treasures of Western Michigan
Cherry Blossoms, Tulips and Sand Dunes

5 Days   May 10 - 14, 2010

Day 1 - Traverse City, MI
Join us as we explore the many treasures that Western Michigan has to offer. We cross the border and make our way across the Lower Peninsula to Traverse City, the world’s Cherry Capital. With 2.6 million blooming cherry trees, it is one of America’s most impressive floral displays. We spend three nights at The Days Inn and Suites. We end our day with a special Cherry Buffet!

Day 2 - Traverse City, MI
We spend a full day touring the area with a local guide. Our tour highlights include a visit to the spectacular Sleeping Bear Dunes, spanning 35 miles of Lake Michigan coastline, and a drive out Old Mission Peninsula where we will be surrounded by hundreds of acres of fruit trees and vineyards. A special treat will be a stop at Cherry Republic where you can sample some of the 130 cherry items including Cherry mustard! Mid afternoon we visit Chateau Grand Traverse where we enjoy a formal wine tasting while overlooking the vineyards of the oldest winery in the region.

Day 3 - Traverse City, MI
This morning we visit the Music House Museum, another of Michigans treasures. See a one-of-a-kind collection of rare antique musical instruments and music-making machines, from 1870 through 1930.

At Friske’s Farm Market, you step back in time in an old-fashioned General Store, filled with jams, and preserves, and so much more. We have lunch here before making our way to the city of Charlevoix and the impressive Castle Farms. Enjoy a walking tour that showcases the grandeur of the French Chateaux styled buildings and learn of the rich history of Castle Farms, from its original construction in 1918, through to the present. A guided tour of the town of Charlevoix will highlight another hidden treasure, the Earl Young homes. Often called Hobbitland, Mushroom Homes, and Gnome Houses, the creations of Earl Young are known world-wide. And the only place you can see them is Charlevoix! We return to our hotel for the night.

Day 4 - Muskegon, MI
We leave the land of cherry blossoms and follow the shore of Lake Michigan south to the town of Muskegon. On arrival, we tour the Hackley and Hume Historic Site. These architectural treasures were once the homes of Muskegon’s most famous lumber barons. Built in the 1800’s, they feature lavish woodcarvings, outstanding stenciling and stained glass windows. We overnight in this beautiful lakeside community.

Day 5 - Home
We begin our travels toward home but first we take time to see just one more of Michigans treasures... the millions of tulips that bloom each spring in the city of Holland!
